Hers & His (Illustration #5)

I did two illustrations this week, but since they are rather simple I am counting as one in my challenge. This week's theme is based on the "Hers & His" concept and since me and the husband don't have matching bathrobes I decided to make us art prints for our bathroom instead. I knew I wanted to use gray and and chartruese as the color palette and then I ended up giving the characters a sort of 1920's inspired look. I totally can picture this guy dipping into some heavy duty mustache wax right before he takes the mrs out to the speakeasy.

Flying the Friendly Skies (Illustration #4)

Here is this week's illustration titled "Planes".  This is the second illustration in my Planes, Trains and Automobiles Series for my friend Lora's sons room. Illustrating planes is definitely A LOT more fun that riding in them. I am concentrating on hand drawing all of the patterns and lettering in this series and so far am liking the results.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Illustration #3)

So this next illustration is for my friend Lora who lives near Boston. She commissioned me to do some artwork for her adorable son Miles' room which is great because I love doing art for kids rooms! We decided to go with the Planes, Trains and Automobile theme based on his cute bedding. Here is the first piece in the series of three. I am giving myself the added challenge of doing all my own hand lettering in this series. I also included some pics of my process below.

"101 Raindrops" - Illustration #2

Follow Me on Pinterest

And here is my second illustration in my 2012 weekly illustration challenge. This was a fun one to do and I had a great time putting it together. The idea behind this piece is about realizing that you have the power to change something if its bothering you and the rewards you receive once you take responsibility for your own happiness. I know, I know, a little "self-helpy" but what can I say, she makes me smile with her big hair and little pink umbrella.

The wording reads: "And When She Poked the Black Cloud That Had Been Following Her, It Turned Into One Hundred & One Brilliantly Colored Raindrops."

Title: "101 Raindrops" • Size: 11 x 13 • Acrylic and Mixed Media on Board.

One done, 52 to go!

Okay so here is my first painting in my challenge. This painting is 11 x 14 and is acrylic and mixed media on board. Some of the mixed media pieces included vintage photos, vintage clippings from books and old sewing patterns. The writing at the bottom reads: "And the more Ned counted, the farther away they became."

The inspiration behind this piece was this character Ned I've been thinking a lot about. Ned is a bit of an obsessive compulsive sort of guy. He likes things real neat and orderly. He'd much prefer counting numbers then having to deal with people and their messy emotions. I also have a strange feeling his record collection is in alphabetical order.

Hope you enjoy! thanks!

53 Illustrations or Bust!

So I've been getting a bit lackadaisical in creating new artwork lately, so instead of watching reruns of beverly hills housewives I figured I needed to put my free time to better use. So I came up with the challenge of doing a new illustration a week. There are 53 Mondays in 2012 so that means I'll be doing 53 new illustrations! yea!

My rules are simple:
1. Create a new illustration each week
2. Put it up on this blog every Monday

So look for the first one this afternoon, I am putting the finishing touches on it!

Cheers!
