So it goes...

It was a rough week at work. Had to say goodbye to a lot of extremely talented, amazing people who will be greatly missed. Change is so hard but unfortunately I don't think its gonna go away anytime soon.

"So it goes."

Mermaid

Here is one of my lastest illustrations I did for my niece's 2nd Birthday Party invite. She's pretty cute if I do say so myself.

Day 27

Heard this saying while eavesdropping on the airplane a couple weeks ago, it came from a Dad talking his daughter down from a bad day at work... kept doodling it and here it is on Day 27

Swimming with the fishes

Today's intent is to find balance, illustrated by the yin yang fish here.

Worrywart

Day 16. Don't be a worrywart. I have always been a worrywart since I was little, it's one if the things I'd like to change about myself the most. It's so pointless and it uses up all your energy. I also believe the more negative thoughts you put out there the more negativity you attract. So I symbolized this by using the umbrella in reverse. Instead of the umbrella (i.e. worries) protecting her from the rain it's actually creating the rain (I.e. negative thoughts)

Be Fantastic

I came down with a bad cold and an ear infection the last couple days and I've been moping around feeling sorry for myself... I decided I should buck up and and make my intent for the day to: "BE FANTASTIC!" I don't think I necessarily accomplished my intent but at least I got a cute illustration.

Halfway there!

14 blocks done - 14 to go. I definitely am looking at all these blocks as rough sketches because they are really, really rough, its kind of driving me crazy not to spend more time on them, but I have to remind myself that wasn't the point. I wanted to use these as quick brainstorm ideas. I plan to pick four of my favorites and expand on those in march and turn the ideas into bigger size paintings, so far I'm not that crazy about the way these little ones are turning out - its hard to find time to work on them. But that's okay hopefully the second half of the month I'll be able to make them more to my liking.

Here is today block in honor of Valentine's day!

Day 13

Today's intent is about trying to break old patterns that aren't doing me any good... Easier said than done.

Be Happy

Sometimes simplicity is the answer to many things for me. I tend to complicate EVERYTHING in my life. So my intent for the day is simple, just try to be happy.

The end.

Speak your truth

Here is day 11. This is a fun little collage I technique I used that involved tissue paper and gel medium.

Use your magic third eye

So I am intrigued with the whole idea of a magic third eye in the sense of seeing beyond the surface or literal world. I consider myself pretty intuitive, but perhaps would like to focus my intuition powers a little more.

Day 9

So I didn't say that all my intents would be totally serious, I was in a funny mood when I did this one ... And sometimes I think it's good to keep people on their toes a bit with my sometimes brash, sense of humor...

Black cloud

So my intent for today is about controlling negative thoughts (symbolized by the little black cloud) and not letting them take over. I read an awesome quote somewhere about, "your mind can only go in one direction so if you don't like where it's headed, change its course..."

28 art blocks in 28 days - #6

Here is day six, this piece is a mixture of paint and mixed media. Entitled, "honor your past," meaning remember to hold onto the things you have learned from your past, especially your mistakes, while still embracing the new.

Be free to be you!

Here us today's art block... It's actually a photo of a birdcage I took and then brought into photoshop and altered a bit and added the typography. I then printed it out and modge podge onto the wooden block and there you have it.

Love

Here is my art block #4... My intent for the day was love, meaning focusing on the things in my life that bring me love and make those priority. I kept this design simple as the intent should be a simple thing to do.

Day 3

Here is my art block number 3. Nothing like a self imposed deadline to get my creative juices flowing.

My intent for day is to be more daydreamy than usual...  and "Keep my head in the clouds". Which shouldn't be too hard since its superbowl Sunday and I'll lose focus in about 1.2 seconds once football is turned on.

I started using little drawings from my sketchbooks in with these collages. I feel like my sketchbook drawings are way more loose  and interesting  then when I draw on these blocks - I guess when I'm sketching I'm not worried about the outcome so the drawings are much more free.

Believe in magic

Here is my art block #2... My intent for the day was to "believe in magic"... and just not the Hogwarts kind. I want to trust in my intuition more and not let logic take over. I find when I am creating art, I am at my most intuitive... so goal accomplished, because I worked all day on my studio.

Ugh!

So I just lost everything I've written for the past hour.
#I'mdumb

So here is my block for the day, I had a great story behind it all with a blind pitbull and everything but now I'm too tired to retype so here it is.

I'm a blockhead.

An art block head. So I'm obsessed with making these cute little art, wood blocks. I like this medium because they can be the vehicle for me to experiment with a lot of different types of artwork: paint, illustration, photography, collage, hand lettering etc.

Yesterday  I was soooo excited to get started that I immediately went to the art store after my great idea and purchased 12 5 x 5 blank wood blocks along with a giant jar of Gesso. Immediately after after exiting the art supply store, the jar of gesso fell jumped out of my bag and onto the sidewalk and continued to roll down the hill with me chasing after it, dripping gesso for about 16 feet. Oops. (My apologies to any pedestrians that may have stepped in that. )

So I'm a little  okay a lot messy, lets get to the point already, my new goal is to do an art block a day for the month of February. The content of the blocks will based on my daily intent or focus. Believe it or not I can be a bit scattered, (insert sarcastic voice here) and another goal of mine is to focus my energy and time better, so I figured why not combine the two goals into one, hence my new goal: 28 art blocks in 28 days.

Below are some examples of custom art blocks I did for a co-worker of mine (with some fancy Instagram filters on them):
